Mr. Trump claims that his tax plan will help people like me: middle class taxpayers.
And one part of it could. Cutting taxes on money that large multinational corporations “repatriate” to the United States could benefit society, if the money was used to spur investment or build infrastructure.
But this is the purpose of taxes in a democracy: to spur investment and build infrastructure thereby benefiting society.
I caught up with Bob Dylan and asked him what he was thinking about the election. Here’s what he said:
“Well, you know, I don’t often git involved in politics, or talk on the record. I liked John Kennedy. And well, I didn’t write ‘She Belongs to Me’ or ‘Love Minus Zero, No Limit’ about Hillary Clinton, but I could have. She kind of reminds me of Joan Baez. She works really hard. Plus she’s got a law degree, she was First Lady, Senator, Secretary of State, and she did a good job.
“And I didn’t write ‘Positively 4th Street” about Trump, but I could have. He hasn’t done much good. Stiffed a whole lot of people.
“And I did write ‘Masters of War’ about the Republicans.
We like Hillary Clinton. We like her as a person and support her campaign. Her economic policy statement, in Detroit, Michigan, August 11, 2016, says it all. Here is the audio, courtesy NPR, and NPR’s analysis.
According to the data presented on FiveThirtyEight.com, “Polls Only Forecast,” Hillary Clinton has a 87.8% probability of winning the election. Hillary has a 91% probability of winning, if the election was held tomorrow, according to FiveThirtyEight. She only has a 77.6% chance of winning based on polls and historical data.
Joe Biden, at the American Constitution Society, ACS, on June 9, 2016, quoted Trump, “We’ll come back in November. Wouldn’t that be wild. if I’m president and I come back to do a civil case?” (Washington Post, here, Wall Street Journal, here, YouTube here).
The Vice President asked if there is any other way than to take this as a “direct threat” to the independence of the judiciary.
Biden said, “Either Trump doesn’t understand or he doesn’t care…. This behavior smacks of authoritarianism.”
Biden also said that Trump “is an exaggeration, not an aberration.” He described the failure of the Senate to hold hearing on Judge Garland, and 88 judicial vacancies on Federal Courts, some from as far back as January, 2015.
